Named for the legendary surrealist artist, Man Ray is the latest wildly creative addition to the Subculture Restaurant family — and fittingly, this downtown Lake Worth Beach newcomer is as much an art experience as it is a restaurant.
A sister concept to Dada in Delray Beach, Man Ray pairs Retro Americana cuisine with an artistic wink, 60s-inspired cocktails, and one seriously cool setting. The menu puts playful spins on nostalgic American favorites, with dishes like Cedar Plank Salmon with huckleberry-miso, Country-Fried Steak Frites “Au Poivre” and Chicken Cordon Bleu “Cubano.”
But good luck keeping your eyes on your plate. Art is everywhere. A massive mural in the alfresco dining room puts Man Ray himself at the middle of The Last Supper along with other icons of the Dada art movement, as tables extend into the artwork to make diners feel like part of the scene. If you look close, you'll see that artist Fernando Cano painted owner Rodney Mayo into the mural! (Hint: look upper left) Man Ray inspiration covers the ceiling above the bar, while hallways and even the restrooms become mini galleries of music lyrics, literature and wonderfully unexpected details.
Come for dinner and a martini. Stay for the art, the conversation and all the little things you didn't notice the first time around.
